THE FUTURE BATTLEFIELD: MULTI-DOMAIN OPERATIONS 2028
“Multi-Domain Operations," is the Army’s Strategic Level concept for operating on an increasingly complex and lethal battlefield, across five contested domains: space, cyberspace, air, maritime, and land.
"MDO emphasizes the convergence of cross-domain capabilities to prevail in competition; to penetrate stand-off capabilities, disintegrate area denial systems, exploit freedom of maneuver, and to and force the return to competition and set conditions for long- term deterrence.”
SURVIVABILITY AND SOLDIER PROTECTION
Preserving and enhancing soldier lethality as an Army Modernization Priority that spans all fundamentals - shooting, moving, communicating, protecting and sustaining.
“Protection across the complete spectrum of threats-- sensor threats, environmental threats, as well as kinetic and direct energy threats."
GPS DENIED
A virtual city and animated CPISR to demonstrate SBS Obstacle Avoidance technology developed by Draper Labs to enable soldiers to more reliably avoid threats and find targets in GPS-denied environments.
"What we do at the core is to emulate or create models that really represent what humans and animals are already doing in reality."
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATOR
This five year science and technology program integrates 77 individual projects that will deliver 209 products to 19 individual transition partners and stakeholders.
FOCUS designed a vast information integration system, where hundreds of projects were visualized in “mission context.” Complex and diverse inputs, including physical, cognitive, and social metrics were related to environmental and situational variables.
VIRTUAL REALITY TESTBED
The Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering Center, with scientists and engineers at the Center for Applied Brain and Cognitive Sciences are developing an urban, Scenario-Based Virtual Reality Testbed for objectively quantifying the impact of next-generation situation awareness technologies on Soldier and Small Team mission performance.
“Our ability to place a participant in a virtual world that renders them immersed visually, auditorily, haptically enables us to get a better understanding of how field-based research might work with the control of a laboratory- based study.”
VIRTUAL SOLDIER DEMONSTRATOR
The Virtual Soldier Demonstrator is an intuitive software authoring tool set used to create compelling visual demonstrations of complex relational data. These virtual demonstrations can be used to illustrate cohesive visual frameworks, align strategic innovation and as powerful visual briefing tools.
FUTURE OF MANUFACTURING
FOCUS designed a SharePoint web portal for the U.S. NAVY and U.S. Marine Corps to demonstrate how Additive Manufacturing (AM) applications are could be used in 4 unique scenarios, and 3 distinct future timeframes: 5, 10, & 20 years.
NAEMO
FOCUS created a website and 21 videos that introduced The U.S. Navy’s Acoustic Effects Modeling and simulation tool. NAEMO is used to simulate the propagation of underwater sound resulting from Navy at-sea training/testing activities and the potential effects on marine species.
"We take inputs from scenarios provided by the stakeholders and merge that with mammal density data, what the sound propagations are, and then come up with how much impact there is on various species."

THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINMENT: AERIAL DELIVERY
Aerial Cargo Delivery Technology:
Critical in Sustaining and Extending Soldier Lethality
"Special operations forces utilize precision aerial delivery technology to enhance lethality by following their ammunition and equipment supply bundles directly into the battle space."
